Regardless of what degree program you select, you will be required to complete internship(s) within your studies at Kendall College. The internships provide you with an opportunity to take what you have learned and apply it in the “real world”. Kendall College’s Career Placement Office assists all Kendall students in finding the right internship location and opportunity to fulfill the student’s educational goals.
Internships within the US
Both the Chicago area as well as the United States in general offer a wealth of internship opportunities for our students. Many students choose to stay in Chicago for their internships. With 3 of the top 4 hotels in North America, as well as over 17,000 restaurants, the City of Chicago provides students with more choices than anywhere else in the United States.
Currently, we have students on internship throughout the US – so the choice is yours. We will work with you to identify all the options, and put you on a path to success.
Internships outside the US
In partnership with our “sister” schools in Bluche, Switzerland, and Marbella, Spain, we have students interning in over 75 different countries throughout the world. These opportunities give our students a true “international” experience in Hospitality, Culinary Arts or Business. Additionally, being a part of the Laureate International University Network allows our students access to more than 24 recognized Universities throughout the world.
As an international student, there are additional procedures required to complete internships overseas. They may include attainment of a work-permit or work-visa for your destination country as well as potential second language requirements that will be necessary for you to learn and succeed in the overseas internship.
Compensation while interning
While many of our students on internship do receive compensation, there is no guarantee that all internships are paid. Different payment options may be an hourly rate, stipend, room and board, or a combination of some or all. However, you should not assume that you will receive compensation or count on that compensation to pay for any portion of your tuition and living expenses while at Kendall College.
Working after graduation
All students who are in the US on a student (F-1) visa, do have an option to work after completion of studies. This is referred to as “OPT” or Optional Practical Training. This program allows graduated students to work in the US for up to 12 months after completing their studies. Once the 12 months are completed, the student will be required to depart the United States as their student visa would have expired.
