Once you have completed the application process and have been accepted to Kendall College, we will send you a packet of information including your I-20 form that will allow you to request a student visa.

Upon receiving the I-20 form, you should contact your closest US Embassy or Consulate to schedule a visa interview. Please note, visa interviews can not take place more than 120 days prior to your entrance date into the US. Once you are within the 120 day timeframe, you can contact the US Embassy to schedule your visa interview.

You can also check on the current wait times for visa interviews, by going to the US State Department Bureau of Consular Affairs website at http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/wait/tempvisitors_wait.php. When you reach the web page, simply select your closest US Embassy location, and you can access the up to date appointment availability as well as processing timelines.

When scheduling your visa interview, it’s always advisable to check with the embassy to get a list of the documents that you should bring with you to the interview. Some of those items may be the following:

  • Your Kendall I-20 Form
  • Receipt of your paid I-901 Fee
  • Original Financial Information
  • Study Plan

The purpose of the interview is to gain insight into your intentions in coming to the United States and to Kendall College. Thus, during the interview, you will need to prove that your intent in coming to the US is to go to school, and then when you complete your studies, your intention is to return to your home country.

In the event that your request for a visa is denied, you are within your rights to ask the embassy official the reason for the denial, and any steps that you should take should you wish to re-apply for a visa in the future.

Once you have received your visa, you should contact Kendall College immediately to let us know that the visa has been granted and when you plan on arriving in Chicago. Shortly before your arrival, we will contact you to make arrangements for your airport pickup and take you to the Kendall College Residence Hall.
