Brandrud Installs Lexicon at Kendall College in Chicago

In the fall of 2004, Brandrud installed advanced prototypes of their new Lexicon Lounge System on the campus of Kendall College in Chicago. As one of the nation’s top culinary and hospitality schools, which prides itself in creating a progressive learning environment, Kendall provides a well-suited test site for the user-adaptable Lexicon. At Kendall, Brandrud practiced their research oriented product development process by setting up a video camera in Kendall’s student lounge, continuously recording students’ interactions with Lexicon as they used it for studying, lounging, snacking, and gathering between classes and during evening events. Of particular note was how participants actively reconfigured components for their own needs. The use of video ethnography at Kendall marks the first time Brandrud employed such participant research with its Lexicon product – a technique that provides a new level of user feedback and behavioral observations that can be applied to further product development.
