Brady Carey, Department Head- English/Communication and Lecturer
General Education

Mr. Carey has an intense passion for teaching, advising, and curriculum development. His background includes a Master's and a Bachelor’s degree in Communication, and extensive teaching experience at the collegiate level coupled with a passion for writing. Instructing at both the university and the community college levels in Chicago has exposed him to a diverse student population. As such, diversity education and training (including learning communities) plays a large role in Mr. Carey’s classrooms. Notably, he is the recipient of the Ray Hartstein Award for “Outstanding and Professional Excellence in Teaching” (Oakton Community College 2000-2001) and for the “Excellence in Teaching Award” with Columbia College (2002).

He is known to be a sailing fanatic, as well as an avid rock-climber.

Andrew Roach, M.S., Math and Science
General Education

Andrew completes his third year teaching mathematics at Kendall and has 4 years in higher education and research.  Andrew has a background in applied mathematics and electronic engineering technology.  Before coming to the College, he was a research scientist at the Polar Science Center in Applied Physics at the University of Washington and earlier worked at the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory, both institutions located in Seattle.  Andrew has several publications to his credit on Oceanography.  As an adjunct, he has taught at Oakton Community College, North Park University and the University of Phoenix.  He was instrumental in establishing the Kendall Academic Success Center, launched in the fall of 2004.  Andrew holds the rank of Assistant Professor.

John Zimmermann, Ph.D., Professor
General Education

John Zimmermann has 38 years at Kendall teaching a diverse range of courses in the humanities and the social sciences.  John has had many years of administrative experience, currently serving as Dean of College Programs.  John is a member of the Jesuit honorary society, Sigma  Alpha Nu, has served on the Board of Higher Education of the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church and the Council of Member Institutions of the University Center of Lake County.  Before coming to Kendall, he was involved for three years in historical research and fund-raising for the American Bible Society.  His research manuscripts were incorporated into a book entitle The Word Carrying Giant which was written by Kenneth Scott Latourette of Yale University and Clayton Lacey of Duke University.  John has edited editions of Louis Hopfe’s Religions of the World for Macmillan Press and has been an ecumenical adult education speaker in area religious institutions.  He was a recipient of the United Methodist Exemplary Teacher Award and holds the rank of Professor.

Core Adjunct Faculty  

Molly Crocker.  B.A (magna cum laude), J.D; completing her second year at Kendall.  Molly has been teaching English composition and Hospitality law courses.  Her honors include graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Illinois – Champaign-Urbana in Speech Communications, receiving the King-Broadrick Award for the highest GPA of all communication majors, and passing the Illinois Bar Exam in the top third rank.  Molly taught Speech classes at the University of Illinois and subsequently taught English classes at a private school in Rockford.  Prior to teaching, she clerked in several law firms and for a federal judge.  She also practices law part-time.

Susan Cartee Enright.  B.S., M.S. first year teaching at Kendall in nutrition.  Susan has broad experience in food science and the food industry.  A life-time member of the Institute of Food Technology, She has developed consumer products for the Keebler Corporation and has been a consultant to the Sarah Lee Corporation.  She has also been involved in promoting community education in nutrition in high schools and in private organizations, such as the Girls Scouts.  Susan is also an Illinois Certified Elementary Substitute Teacher.

Pat Fiene; B.A. (cum laude), M.A.; more than 14 years teaching at Kendall in the areas of English composition and literature, and 30 years in higher education.  Pat was formerly a full-time faculty member of the College for 5 years before entering the publishing field.  She has served as a consulting editor and features writer on a number of literary and composition textbooks for McGraw-Hill, Houghton-Mifflin, and several other major publishers; was development editor of Contemporary Books’ award-winning ELL series, Expressions and Viewpoints; was managing editor of a number of titles in the Glencoe Literature Library (student and teacher study guides for classic British and American novels); and was a content editor for the literature component of PBS Kentucky’s GED series.  Pat recently wrote several on-line teacher-training journal articles for Glencoe Literature’s “e-zine,” and was senior writer on a series of state test preparation texts in the areas of persuasive nonfiction text and literature.

Michael Abel. B.S., M.S.; 2 years teaching computer science courses at Kendall with 5 years of college-level teaching experience.  Michael started in the field as a computer operator and was subsequently moved into the areas of application development, systems programming, database systems administration and computer training.  He has been working as a database administrator for a Fortune 500 company for the last 8 years.  Currently, he is working on projects involving large scale relational database systems, distributed enterprise application integration, business integration and messaging technology and managing a team of DB2 and UDB database administrators responsible for mission critical systems.

Jill Bishop. B.A., University of Illinois (summa cum laude), M.A., Ph.D., University of California, Los Angeles in Anthropology.  Jill has earned Illinois teaching certification grades 6-12 in Spanish and anthropology.  She is currently President of Workforce Language Services and an active member of the American Anthropological Association.  At the University of California she was awarded the Chancellor’s Dissertation Year Fellowship 2000-2001 and the Maurice Amado Foundation Dissertation Research Grants in 1999 and 2000.  She has published an article (“From Shame to Nostalgia: Shifting Language Ideologies in the Judeo-Spanish Maintenance Movement”) in the proceedings of the 11th British Conference on Judeo-Spanish Studies in 2004.  She has more than seven years of college-level teaching experience.

Anita Damjanovic. B.A. (summa cum laude) University of Louisville in Art History, Humanities and Spanish, M.A., University of Chicago in Hispanic Literature, six years of teaching Spanish

Jerry Foust. B.A., M.A., Ph.D. Loyola University of Chicago; 4 years of teaching at the college-level at Kendall and other area institutions, Jerry has also received certification in historical preservation from the University of Cincinnati.  He has worked as an archival consultant for both The Chicago Jewish Archives and the Shel Silverstein Archives and has been engaged as an educational adviser and committee member at the Michigan Maritime Museum in South Haven.  He is a member of the Organization of American Historians and the American Association for State and Local History.

Paul Glover.  B.A., M.A., J.D. DePaul University.  He has been teaching as an adjunct for three years at Lewis University, University of St. Francis, and the University of Phoenix.  He has a master degree in Labor Law.  He has founded and manages his own consulting business for employers.  Paul is also a practicing attorney and a member of the National Speakers Association.

Ellen Goldberg. B.S., Indiana University, Bloomington, M.A. in Spanish Literature from the University of Northern Iowa and presently working on a Master degree in Higher Education at Loyola University of Chicago, studied in Madrid, Spain, seven years of teaching Spanish

Loren Hildebrand. B.S. (with Honors) Northeastern Illinois University in Information Systems, M.S. DePaul University in Computer Science, experience as a Senior Database Engineer and Administrator, eighteen years teaching mathematics and information technology

Jaime Hovey B.A. Vassar College, M.A. Pennsylvania State University, Ph.D. Rutgers, State University of  New Jersey, eleven years teaching English Composition and Rhetoric, Gender and Women’s Studies

Brian Oyler. B.A., M.A. Ball State University in Spanish and German.  Brian is certified to teach not only Spanish, but also French and German at the elementary through university levels. He is a member of many language educator associations and has received the Alpha Mu Gamma award for language excellence.  He has been teaching in area high schools and community colleges for more than three years.

Novia Pagone.  B.A. in Spanish and Integrated International Studies, (cum laude) Knox College, M.A. in Spanish Literature University of Texas, currently a Ph.D student in Spanish Literature, University of Chicago, eleven years of college-level Spanish.

Christine Semenow.  B.A., M.F.A. Columbia College in Creative Writing
She is a certified Story Workshop director, has published in “Hyphen Magazine,” and has gained valuable editorial experience as a copywriter for more than ten years.

Melinda Swank. B.A., University of Illinois in Human Development and Family Studies, M.A., University of Colorado in Counseling Psychology, Marriage and Family Track, three years teaching Psychology

Ryan Swartz. B.A., M.A., Iowa State University in Creative Writing, six years of English Composition teaching

Marcia Wert.  M.S. Information Systems, DePaul University, two years of teaching computer technology and experience with on line instruction.  Marcia teaches both mathematics and computer science courses.
