Hospitality Management Professor Ramsborg Appointed Board of Directors’ Academic Liaison for Certified Meeting Professionals
Dr. Ramsborg Also Concludes Three Year Term on APEX Standards Review Council that Redefined Global Meeting Terms
CHICAGO—March 29, 2011—Kendall College School of Hospitality Management Professor Glen C. Ramsborg, Ph.D., CMP, was appointed to the first-ever position of Academic Liaison by the Certified Meeting Professionals (CMP) Board of Directors. Ramsborg, who has been a part of Kendall College faculty since 2009, is a veteran education professional with a 25-year career in meeting and event management. The CMP Board of Directors serves as a voice for stakeholders who have an interest in maintaining high standards for the meetings and events industry. As Academic Liaison, Dr. Ramsborg will serve a two year term (2011 – 2012) representing the academic community perspective in deliberations and decisions made by the CMP Board of Directors. He will also keep a pulse on the impact that Board decisions have on educational programs, and provide insight to the academic community regarding the integration of the forthcoming international CMP Blueprint for schools that have a focus on meetings and events management.
“Education is my passion, and I have enjoyed devoting my energies in an academic setting to introduce students to, and further the professionalism of, the meetings and events industry,” Ramsborg said. “The chance to influence students and the industry on a larger scale as Academic Liaison for the CMP is a great honor.”
This month, Ramsborg is also completing his three-year term as a member of the Accepted Practices Exchange (APEX) Standards Review Council, which helped redefine the newly released APEX Industry Glossary issued in January 2011. The APEX Accepted Practices are voluntary standards designed by the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry to streamline business processes and create efficiencies. The Glossary is the definitive source of terms and definitions for the meeting planning industry around the world. Dr. Ramsborg worked with 16 other committee members to reduce the CMP terminology from 4,000 glossary terms and definitions to 1,500.
“We are grateful to Glen Ramsborg for his time and efforts to help update the APEX Glossary, which is a cornerstone reference document for the meeting planning industry,” said Lawrence Leonard, CMP, APEX Director. “Glen and the team were able to give the glossary a comprehensive editorial review, which hadn’t been accomplished since 2005, and edit out irrelevant and out of date terms.”
Prior to joining Kendall College, Ramsborg worked as Senior Director, Education, for the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA). In this role, Ramsborg served as the Executive Editor of the fifth edition of PCMA’s Professional Meeting Management, recognized as the industry’s premier textbook, and developed the first and most comprehensive online course for industry professionals preparing for the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) Certification Examination. The program has earned the remarkable distinction of having a 98-percent pass rate over the first two years among those who completed the course and sat for the examination in 2008. PCMA named him the “Educator of the Year” in 2003.
