Kendall College Dedicates Academic Success Center to Influential Chicagoan John A. Miller

CHICAGO, Ill. (August 4, 2009) – Chicago-based Kendall College today announced that it dedicated its Academic Success Center to local resident, John A. Miller, in honor of his contribution and devotion to Kendall College and its parent company, Laureate Education, Inc. The John A. Miller Academic Success Center is located at Kendall’s Riverworks campus and serves as a student area for studying, testing and tutoring.

An official ribbon cutting ceremony was held at Kendall College on Wednesday, July 1 where John Miller was recognized by Douglas L. Becker, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Laureate Education, Inc., and Dr. Nivine Megahed, President of Kendall College.

Mr. Miller is President and CEO of North American Corporation, a Glenview, IL-based, privately held company founded in 1919 that specializes in industrial paper, packaging, printing and custom fulfillment. Miller has served on the Board of Directors for Laureate Education, Inc., a global leader in higher education, for more than six years. In July 2008, Kendall College was purchased by Laureate Education, Inc., a global network of 43 institutions of higher learning with 100 campuses in 20 countries.

“When it comes to getting great advice and insight on how to successfully enhance an educational institution, I know I can depend on John,” said Douglas Becker. “He is constantly willing to lend a helping hand no matter how big or small the task.”

“We’ve seen a significant growth in the utilization of our new Academic Success Center. It’s an important part of our school because it allows students to escape to an area where they can concentrate on their academic work,” said Dr. Nivine Megahed. “We are thrilled to honor John Miller and show our appreciation for his commitment to Kendall and its students by re-naming the facility the John A. Miller Academic Success Center.”

“From a young age, I realized that people can lose their jobs or fortunes, but they can never lose their education,” Miller said. “Education is something that is extremely important to me so I’m thrilled to be a part of the Laureate Education, Inc. and Kendall College family.”

Miller received his BSBA in Finance from the University of Denver in 1975 followed by his MBA in 1976, where he graduated with honors. He resides in Winnetka with his wife and three children.
