Chicago–May 30, 2012–Aspiring chefs, entrepreneurs, teachers and hotel executives can experience their dream career at Kendall College’s summer camps. Ranked the No. 1 Chicago program for preparing students for careers in the culinary arts and hospitality management by Chicago’s leading hotels and Michelin Guide restaurants (ORC International – 2011 Survey), Kendall College offers these popular educational camps to high school students ages 13 - 18. All campers are awarded a $1,000 scholarship towards tuition at Kendall College.
Camps focus on a wide range of in-demand career fields, including business, culinary arts, early childhood education and hospitality, through weeklong experiences that incorporate team challenges and interactions throughout Chicago. “Operation Exploration,” a new feature of the program this year, introduces campers to each of Kendall’s Schools of Business, Culinary Arts, Education and Hospitality Management.
“Kendall College’s summer camps are an educational yet entertaining way for teens to explore career fields they are interested in or would like to learn more about,” said Emily Williams Knight, president of Kendall College. “We’re pleased to offer high school students this unique experience that can help them discover their passion and lays the groundwork for their future pursuits in college and beyond.”
A new camp designed for the teenager that wants to explore several industries and careers, campers will meet industry leaders in the fields of business, culinary arts, education, baking and pastry, and hospitality management. This hands-on journey into five different career fields in five days will include meetings with marketing executives from a well-known sports team, making cake and eating it, too, becoming a “special assistant teacher” in a Chicago-based early childhood education center, seeing what it takes to run a top Chicago hotel and cooking in an Iron Chef challenge. This camp will be offered July 23 - July 27.
Backpack to Boardroom Camp
“Backpack to Boardroom” offers students a fun and interactive hands-on learning style that focuses on concepts and skills required in today’s business world. Campers will take special, behind-the-scenes tours of some of Chicago’s famous hotels, businesses and restaurants for an inside glimpse at how the industry works. Campers will also discuss career success strategies with top industry personalities, develop leadership capabilities and teamwork dynamics, acquire poise and professionalism, hone a competitive edge, gain business and social etiquette and more. Sessions are offered July 9-13 and August 6-10.
Kendall College’s well-known culinary camps offer introductory classes, demonstrations and lectures that cover culinary and baking topics. Summer campers will get hands-on experience in a kitchen where they learn from renowned chef instructors. Each session concludes with a special banquet for family and friends prepared entirely by culinary campers. Depending on the type of camp (culinary or baking and pastry), sessions are offered on the following dates: June 25-29; July 9-13, 16-20, 23-27, 30–August 3; and August 6-10.
