Kendall College Ranked Most Ethnically Diverse College by U.S. News & World Report

College Receives Highest Regional Diversity Rating from U.S. News & World Report

Chicago—October 15, 2012—Kendall College has been ranked as the most ethnically diverse liberal arts college in the Midwest in U.S. News & World Report’s 2013 Edition of Best Colleges. The U.S. News & World Report rating was determined by factoring in the proportion of minority students—leaving out international students—within the overall mix of student groups in an institution’s 2011–2012 student body.

Kendall College has a tradition of providing its students with an ethnically and globally diverse student population. U.S. News & World Report based its ranking on the fact that 23% of Kendall’s students during 2011 – 2012 were African American. The rankings were determined through a formula that produces each schools diversity index, ranging from 0.0 to 1.0. The closer a school’s number is to 1.0, the more diverse the student population. Kendall College topped the list of schools in the Midwest with a diversity index of 0.59. During this time, the total number of minority students represented 38% of Kendall’s student population.

“We are honored to be included on this list and to be recognized as a diverse educational institution in the Midwest,” said Emily Williams Knight, president of Kendall College. “Our mission is to provide access to quality educational opportunities in an environment that allows students to learn not only from instructors but also from each other. This type of highly diverse environment only enhances our ability to prepare our students to succeed in a global workforce in the culinary, hospitality, business and education fields.”

Every year, U.S. News & World Report produces college diversity rankings for students who wish to study with individuals from assorted backgrounds. In addition to measuring ethnic diversity, the study also measures economic diversity and the presence of foreign students. The study is developed yearly for prospective undergraduates.
