The Chicago Area Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPI-CAC) announced the recipients of its first Undergraduate Student Member Scholarships in May. One of this year’s spring 2009 scholarship winners is Maximilliane (Maxi) Klinger, a student in the School of Hospitality Management at Kendall. She is working towards her B.A. with a concentration in Event & Meeting Management.
Maxi is originally from Germany and transferred to Kendall from Les Roches School of Hotel Management in Marbella, Spain last year. During her three years of studies in Europe she worked in the hotel industry in high-end hotel chains and their corporate offices. When she came to Kendall to broaden her scope of the industry and extend her knowledge into the meeting industry, she fell in love with the versatility of this profession. Maxi is currently enrolled in two meeting management classes and is serving as the class project manager organizing two live Kendall events. The first was a Casino Night fundraiser held in one of Chicago’s hotel ballrooms, sponsored by Kendall’s International Club and Eta Sigma Delta, The International Hospitality Management Honor Society. This first-time event raised money for Children’s International. Maxi is also leading the effort in her Trade Shows and Conventions class to organize the International Fair. Maxi is fascinated by meetings and their potential. “I love how I can contribute to attendees reaching their maximum potential. By ensuring the best meeting and event environment possible I help people leave with a memorable and significant experience.” Her goal is to maximize the benefit from living and working in the U.S. before she returns, one day, home to Germany to become a successful meeting planner.
Kimberley Skarr, Director of Student Life, stated, “Maxi exemplifies the spirit and intellectual curiosity of Kendall students. We are pleased that her efforts were recognized by MPI in this scholarship.”
