GRAFTING: Becoming a Backyard Orchardist Workshop #1 Rootstock & Grafting


Rootstock & Grafting 1In these hands-on workshops, you will be guided by expert local organic fruit growers, Oriana Kruszweski and Jeanne Calabrese, to graft scion wood onto stock to create and care for fruit trees. Workshop attendees will go home with two fruit trees, ready for planting, that will bear fruit for 3-4 years. Several varietals of heirloom apples and Asian pears will be available. $45 per person.

Workshop #1
Monday, March, 19 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Learn the art of fruit tree grafting to create trees that you are unable to find from a commercial nursery. Workshop will cover how to add an additional variety to an already existing fruit tree.

Workshop #2
Monday, April, 2 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Learn how to plant and care for your fruit trees using organic methods. We will cover the basics of soil preparation, watering and pruning of your trees once established.

Attendees should bring a sharp thin bladed knife or utility knives with replaceable blades will work. If you’d like to purchase a grafting knife, we recommend this one.
