What Is the Montgomery GI Bill?

If you served 2 years of active duty, received an Honorable Discharge, and completed High School you might qualify for monthly benefits under the Montgomery GI Bill. Remember, benefits under the GI Bills generally expire 10 years after leaving active duty.

What Is the Post-9/11 GI Bill?

The Post-9/11 GI Bill applies direct funds to cover a significant portion of your costs, including tuition, housing, and fees for books. This program is open to individuals who have served at least 90 days of active duty after September 11th, 2001. Under the Post-9/11 Bill you have the ability to transfer your educational benefits to family members. The payment amounts are determined by how much time you’ve served since 9/11.

What Is the Yellow Ribbon Program?

The Yellow Ribbon Program is a provision of the Post-9/11 GI Bill that helps students attend private colleges for little to no cost. Under the Yellow Ribbon Program colleges can enter into an agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs to waive a portion of your tuition. Veterans EducationWhat Is Military Tuition Assistance?

Eligible active duty members of the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard can qualify to have up to 100% of their tuition and fees paid for under the Tuition Assistance program. Each military branch has different qualifications and payment details for the program. Note that Tuition Assistance is only available to those who are actively on duty or in the reserves of select branches.

What Is the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program?

If you are a veteran with an employment handicap or a VA disability rating you might be eligible for employment services and tuition assistance under Chapter 31 of the GI Bill, otherwise known as the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program. Those that are eligible for the program must submit an application and meet with a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. The benefits available include financial assistance for attending a college or vocational school.
