All Early Childhood Education students, regardless of your track, benefit from diverse fieldwork experiences where you can apply what you have learned in actual classrooms.
Fieldwork includes observation of and participation with infants and toddlers, pre-primary–age children (Ages 3 and 4) and primary-age children (Grades K– 3).
In addition to fieldwork, licensure-track students gain additional experience with focused pre-primary and primary teaching through clinical practice. Two separate practicum experiences ensure that you build the skills and knowledge for teaching children, birth through Grade 3*, as required for the Illinois Teaching License. In conjunction with the clinical practicum, you will participate in an online-only clinical practice seminar.
While Kendall’s clinical practice and fieldwork requirements meet those of the state, the format of the program is flexible and geared toward helping working students, like you, fulfill all requirements. In fact, educators already teaching in a pre-primary setting may qualify to complete those specific clinical practice requirements in their own classrooms.
Non-licensure seeking students are required to complete an internship that explores diverse opportunities in the field of early childhood education. We work with students to craft individualized internship experiences.
