Kendall Joins CAFE to Recognize Culinary Programs that Teach, Practice Sustainability

The Center for the Advancement of Foodservice Education (CAFÉ) and Kendall’s School of Culinary Arts have joined together to present the CAFÉ/Kendall College Green Award. This is the first-ever national award created to recognize accredited food service-training programs for their commitment to sustainability. In addition to the award, Kendall College will present the recipient with a $1,000 cash prize plus complimentary registration to the 5th Annual CAFÉ Leadership Conference in Denver in June.

All U.S. secondary and postsecondary culinary-arts and baking-and-pastry programs are eligible. Selection criteria are based on the integration of sustainability into both their educational programs and operations.

“We are proud to be able to present this award,” says Kendall’s dean of culinary arts, Christopher Koetke, CEC, CCE. “Kendall College embarked upon its sustainability journey in 2005 and hasn’t looked back. Based on our deep commitment and the difference we know that it has made for both our students and operations, we want to recognize the efforts of other programs and encourage the sharing of ideas that will help us all increase the value of the educational experience for our students.”

Founded in 2002, CAFÉ specializes in providing needed resources to educators so that they may more successfully train students for vibrant, fulfilling careers in the ever-evolving foodservice industry. The recipient of the inaugural CAFÉ/Kendall College Green Award will be honored on June 11, 2009, at the CAFÉ Leadership Conference at Johnson & Wales University in Denver.
