The James Beard Foundation Awards, known in the food service industry as the “Oscars of the food world,” will hold their annual awards gala on Monday, May 1st, in our renowned city of Chicago. The James Beard Foundation Awards were founded in 1990 to honor the best of the best in the culinary profession, recognizing excellence and exemplary achievement in the food industry. The present categories cover all aspects of the industry, with awards going to restaurateurs, chefs, food journalists, cookbook authors, restaurant designers and architects and other notable positions.
As a premiere culinary arts educational entity, Kendall College is honored to be an official sponsor of this year’s James Beards Awards Gala. Education is a key component of the Foundation, with many prominent educational programs and institutions playing a crucial role in maintaining the spirit of the organization. The James Beard Foundation was founded to honor, nurture, and celebrate the diverse culinary heritage in America, which Kendall College reflects in its international student body and approach to learning.
The James Beard Foundation Awards appoint an individual committee of experts for each category. The industry professionals oversee the policies and procedures for judge selection for their respective awards on their own time, out of devotion to the cause of the esteemed organization. More than 600 industry professionals vote on the awards every year.
