Leigh Uhlir

  • Program Director, School of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management
Leigh Uhlir, Program Director, School of Culinary Arts and School of Hospitality Management, is an alumna of Kendall College, where she earned an Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts and a Bachelor of Arts in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Leigh has served as a core contributing and full-time faculty member at Kendall, where she developed courses and training programs based on her professional experience at some of the nation’s leading hospitality companies and restaurants. During her career, Leigh has led server training at a five-star restaurant and a café and cigar bar at the Four Seasons in Chicago; a divisional trainer for five Las Vegas restaurants for Lettuce Entertain You; implementation specialist for MICROS hospitality point-of-sale systems; and manager and chef for a variety of restaurants in Chicago and Austin, Texas. She began her academic career in 2008 at Le Cordon Bleu College and obtained a Master in Education from American Intercontinental University with a focus in higher education and online learning. Javier Perez Exposito

Javier Perez Exposito

  • Visiting Professor
Javier joined Kendall College in June, 2017 as a visiting faculty member from the Universidad Europea de Madrid (UEM), one of the schools in the Laureate International Universities network, and will be teaching marketing-focused courses in the School of Hospitality Management through June, 2018. Javier has experience in strategy, planning and integrating marketing communication. He also has a PhD in Marketing and Communication from UEM, an MBA in Business Administration from UEM, and a BS in Communication and Information Sciences from Universidad Complutense in Madrid, as well as other postgraduate work. He is fluent in Spanish and English, and has studied in Spain and the United States. javier.exposito@kendall.edu
 

John Laloganes, M.Ed.

John Laloganes, M.Ed.

  • Assistant Professor
John leads the Beverage Management concentration at Kendall and Kendall’s Wine Professional program (WP). In 2012, Mr. Laloganes was awarded the Sommelier/Wine Steward of the Year by the IACP International Association of Culinary Professionals. John has authored several books including The Essentials of Wine with Food Pairing Techniques. Mr. Laloganes earned a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management from the University of Wisconsin and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Minnesota. John.Laloganes@kendall.edu
 

Ted Mandigo, CPA, MBA

Ted Mandigo, CPA, MBA

  • Assistant Professor
Ted is a graduate of the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration and holds an M.B.A. from Loyola University. He sits on the national council of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and helped to found the International Society of Hospitality Consultants (ISHC). With over 40 years of consulting experience, he is frequently quoted in global publications regarding the state of the hospitality industry. Mr. Mandigo has conducted more than 1,500 market feasibility studies and consulting analyses for the hospitality industry including over 20% of the properties in the Chicago area. Deborah Popely, MS

Deborah Popely, MS

  • Associate Professor
Deb has more than 25 years’ diversified business experience that includes senior management positions in several service businesses and leadership of entrepreneurial ventures, including founding and running her own marketing and events firm, and establishing successful nonprofit sustainability consulting firm.  She has served as a presenter and keynote speaker for national industry organizations including Hospitality and Sales Marketing Association International (HSMAI), Meeting Planners International (MPI) and the Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC). Ms. Popely actively participates in the events industry and educates and propels the hospitality industry forward in the area of sustainability She is in the process of earning a doctorate in business (DBA) with a focus on sustainability in hospitality and tourism from Walden University. Paul Romer

Paul Romer

  • Associate Professor
Paul Romer, Assistant Professor in the School of Hospitality Management, has been with Kendall College since January 2016 and teaches Meeting/Event Marketing, Event Technology/Production and Experiential Learning. He is a passionate industry professional, with an even greater passion for our students- highlighted by his recent receipt of the Spring 2017 Top Teaching award. Paul has over 25 years of experience in business, in a broad range of industries and executive and functional roles, including business-to-business, as well as consumer marketing, and has served the large convention/meeting industry in a variety of senior executive roles, including being Vice President of GES Exposition Services and General Manager of Giltspur Tradeshow Displays. Paul has a Master’s of Business Administration degree in Marketing and Finance from Kellogg Graduate School at Northwestern University and a Bachelor’s of Industrial Administration from Kettering University. paul.romer@kendall.edu
 

Sapna Mangal, MS, MBA

Sapna Mangal, MS, MBA

  • Associate Professor
Sapna M. Mangal, an Associate Professor in the School of Hospitality Management brings more than two decades of international hospitality and teaching experience to Kendall College. She earned a M.S. in Hotel and Restaurant Management with a minor in Marketing in 1994 at University of North Texas. She returned to Singapore and was gainfully employed as a Program Manager for an Irvine, California-based multi-national, hospitality marketing consulting firm. She received her MBA from University of Houston Clear Lake with a Management Information Systems concentration. She joined Kendall College’s School of Hospitality Management in 2004. Prior to joining Kendall's faculty, she taught Management Information Systems at Sam Houston State University College of Business Administration in Huntsville, Texas. Mangal is the recipient of the “Best Paper” award that she co-wrote on Sustainable Event Marketing. She is also a Kendall College recipient of “Outstanding Commitment to Students” Award. She has been published on an online trade publication website, Hotel Business Review website on topics of “Counterfactual Thinking” and “Paradigm shift in guest services for Millennial hotel guests.” She has contributed to the India Student Guide, an international student education publication. She is the faculty advisor for Eta Sigma Delta (ESD) an international hospitality management honors society. She has presented at various industry events and actively participates in hospitality industry professional conferences, trade shows and expositions. She served on the HSMAI IL Chapter Board as the Vice President of Student Affairs from 2010-13. She is a member of I-CHRIE and also serves on a myriad of academic committees at Kendall College.
