Dr. Susan Tinnish, PhD

Dr. Tinnish is a highly regarded thought leader in the hospitality industry. She is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences. Dr. Tinnish is an expert on sustainable practices for events and was instrumental in developing international sustainable events standards. Her work and research in events and sustainability is published in books, textbooks and academic journals. Dr. Tinnish earned her PhD from Benedictine University, holds an M.B.A. from University of Chicago’s Booth School and a B.S. from Northwestern University. Susan.Tinnish@kendall.edu

Ed Copeland

Ed Copeland

Ed Copeland, CHA, received his Bachelor of Science in Business Education and Accounting from Chicago State College. Like many hospitality industry professionals, Ed began his career on a part-time basis during college and fell in love with the industry. During his forty year career, Ed has managed various hotels and restaurants in the Midwest and retired as Vice President of Hotel Operations for Strang Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio. He is the former Chairman, and currently Honorary Director of the Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association. He also serves as Secretary and Chairman of the Scholarship Committee for the IHLA Education Foundation. In 1990 Ed was recognized as Hotelier of the Year for the State of Illinois and General Manager of the Year for Cendant Hotels. Ed joined the Kendall faculty in 2008. He teaches Rooms Division Operations and Management courses in the Hospitality program.
 

John Laloganes, M.Ed.

John Laloganes, M.Ed.

John leads the Beverage Management concentration at Kendall and Kendall’s Wine Professional program (WP). In 2012, Mr. Laloganes was awarded the Sommelier/Wine Steward of the Year by the IACP International Association of Culinary Professionals. John has authored several books including The Essentials of Wine with Food Pairing Techniques. Mr. Laloganes earned a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management from the University of Wisconsin and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Minnesota. John.Laloganes@kendall.edu
 

Ted Mandigo, CPA, MBA

Ted Mandigo, CPA, MBA

  • Assistant Professor School of Hospitality Management
Ted is a graduate of the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration and holds an M.B.A. from Loyola University. He sits on the national council of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and helped to found the International Society of Hospitality Consultants (ISHC). With over 40 years of consulting experience, he is frequently quoted in global publications regarding the state of the hospitality industry. Mr. Mandigo has conducted more than 1,500 market feasibility studies and consulting analyses for the hospitality industry including over 20% of the properties in the Chicago area. Sapna Mangal, MS, MBA

Sapna Mangal, MS, MBA

Sapna M. Mangal, an Associate Professor in the School of Hospitality Management brings more than two decades of international hospitality and teaching experience to Kendall College. She earned a M.S. in Hotel and Restaurant Management with a minor in Marketing in 1994 at University of North Texas. She returned to Singapore and was gainfully employed as a Program Manager for an Irvine, California-based multi-national, hospitality marketing consulting firm. She received her MBA from University of Houston Clear Lake with a Management Information Systems concentration. She joined Kendall College’s School of Hospitality Management in 2004. Prior to joining Kendall's faculty, she taught Management Information Systems at Sam Houston State University College of Business Administration in Huntsville, Texas. Mangal is the recipient of the “Best Paper” award that she co-wrote on Sustainable Event Marketing. She is also a Kendall College recipient of “Outstanding Commitment to Students” Award. She has been published on an online trade publication website, Hotel Business Review website on topics of “Counterfactual Thinking” and “Paradigm shift in guest services for Millennial hotel guests.” She has contributed to the India Student Guide, an international student education publication. She is the faculty advisor for Eta Sigma Delta (ESD) an international hospitality management honors society. She has presented at various industry events and actively participates in hospitality industry professional conferences, trade shows and expositions. She served on the HSMAI IL Chapter Board as the Vice President of Student Affairs from 2010-13. She is a member of I-CHRIE and also serves on a myriad of academic committees at Kendall College. Deborah Popely, MS

Deborah Popely, MS

Deb has more than 25 years of experience as an event planner and meeting facilitator. She is the founding executive director of Green Events Source, a non-profit dedicated to increasing sustainability in the events and hospitality industries. She has served as a presenter and keynote speaker for national industry organizations including Hospitality and Sales Marketing Association International (HSMAI), Meeting Planners International (MPI) and the Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC). Ms. Popely actively participates in the events industry and educates and propels the hospitality industry forward in the area of sustainability. Deborah.Popely@kendall.edu
 

Leigh Uhlir

Leigh Uhlir

  • Assistant Professor School of Hospitality Management
Leigh Uhlir is an alumna of Kendall College where she earned an Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts and a Bachelor of Arts in Hospitality and Culinary Management. In 2011, she received her Masters in Education in Instructional Technology from American Intercontinental University. Previously, Leigh worked as a Divisional Trainer for Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises in Las Vegas overseeing five restaurants including two of their fine dining concepts, Eiffel Tower and Joe’s Prime Steak and Stone Crab. She also worked as an Implementation Specialist for MICROS programming and training the systems to management and employees.
